Claudia Du.XZ,
landscapes under the influence of the mind

Narrating through a stylistically distinctive and emotionally charged visual language bridging realism and abstraction, my work aims to celebrate the multi-dimensional complexity of the human experience and our interconnectedness within the broader tapestry of environment and existence.

Semi-abstract landscape allows me to dance between the tangible and the abstract, to push and blur boundaries between representation and interpretation; and between our natural world and our inner perceptions. Emphasising delicate grey tones in celebration of the rich and complex non-binary of the world surrounding and within us, using impasto palette knife strokes I aim to foster a sense of stillness through movement.

With a studio-practice-heavy academic background and having lived in rural Mackenzie country for the past 7 years, the alpine landscapes are a loved theme of mine. Calling through the wild scenes is a sense of connection with the profound experience nature can bring, evoking an emotion, a memory, a sense of nostalgia, or a promise of a new beginning.

“A landscape is a visual perception, the way in which we experience our environment through our eyes.” - J. Porteous

Recently based in ÅŒtautahi Christchurch, I am at a pivoting point of further developing my creative practice, transitioning into new ideas and embracing change. So watch the space.

My work has been collected in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and China. Selected pieces are on display and available for sale at boutiques in the Mackenzie district.
